While a common figure on television, specifically in news and interviews, it's not often that the First Lady, Michelle Obama, gets to appear in a drama series. However, her upcoming guest stint on "NCIS" Season 13 is a special one. Why is the First Lady going to be in the crime series and when will viewers get to see the episode?
CNN reports that Michelle Obama's "NCIS" Season 13 guest appearance is for the initiative called "Joining Forces." It is an actual program long established by Obama, along with Vice President Joe Biden's wife, Jill. Its aim is to help military families, including the veterans, in matters of health benefits, the military children's education and employment opportunities.
In the episode entitled "Homefront," Michelle Obama, who will appear as herself and won't be playing a different character, will invite NCIS Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon) and actual military wives to join her in a roundtable discussion of "Joining Forces" the White House. The episode is scheduled to air Tuesday, May 3, at 8 p.m. on CBS.
Earlier, talks about the presence of the "NCIS" cast and crew at the White House made its way on social media. They were spotted in and around the sites and attractions near the First Family's home during filming breaks too, as Parent Herald previously reported. At that time, the extent of the First Lady's appearance or participation in the show was not yet confirmed.
However, producers have finally released a statement to announce what the guest stint will be about. "It was such a pleasure working with First Lady Michelle Obama and it's our honor to support the 'Joining Forces' initiative and the military families that benefit from it," said "NCIS" executive producer Gary Glasberg, per E! Online.
Apart from the "Joining Forces" storyline, the "NCIS" episode 's main plot is about an investigation into a home invasion involving a 14-year-old. The show will also tackle an ongoing story about a British spy. Catch Michelle Obama on "NCIS" Season 13 "Homefront" episode on Tuesday, May 3, at 8 p.m. on CBS.
