'Star Trek' TV Reboot Update: What The New Series Will Bring For Trekkies As Filming Starts In Fall

The "Star Trek" TV reboot will start filming in the fall in Toronto, Canada. The new show comes 11 years after the last series went off the air. One of its former writers, "Hannibal" creator Bryan Fuller, is taking charge, along with Trevor Roth, who is the CEO of Roddenberry Entertainment that created the franchise. What can trekkies expect from the reboot and why should they be excited to watch it?

Roth spoke with Newsrama about developing a new chapter for the "Star Trek" TV reboot and acknowledged that there will be some challenges to it in trying to attract a new market, but retaining old time viewers of the franchise. The show will be viewed as an exclusive to CBS All Access, which is the network's online streaming service. Only the pilot episode of "Star Trek" TV reboot will be airing on television.

'Star Trek' TV Reboot And Continuity

"I think the challenge of it is to have people understand that they're going to be moving, or adding, CBS All Access to their repertoire of viewing and we're making sure people have something worth going for," said Roth to Newsrama. But he also said that the people behind the show are excited to work at delivering new content in different platform. "I think it's important for Star Trek and the continuation of where we're going with entertainment."

Roth also underscored that Trekkies will have something to look forward to with the "Star Trek" TV reboot. Those who grew up loving the show, just like Roth, get the differences of all the series that have spanned decades. "But I think at the end of the day there are certain tenets of Star Trek that make it what it is," he said, and this continuity is what the "Star Trek" TV reboot intends to bring.

'Star Trek' TV Reboot Filming Location

Toronto Sun reports that the "Star Trek" TV reboot will be filming in Hogtown, in a studio that CBS has already booked beginning September. The show will be the first "Star Trek" to film away from Los Angeles. Buzz about "Star Trek" coming to Toronto had been loud for a few weeks and it was only confirmed by the writers when they officially announced this in a Twitter post on May 2. The "Star Trek" TV reboot will debut in January 2017 on CBS All-Access.
