Cory Monteith's film completed before he passed away eight months ago will finally be released Friday, according to reports.
Monteith, who is best known for his role on the hit TV musical "Glee," plays the role of Simon Weeks, a drug addict and prisoner, in the upcoming movie "McCanick," in which he appears alongside veteran actor David Morse.
In a trailer of "McCanick" recently released by E! Online, it's clear Monteith embraced the new kind of role. Other than looking very different in the movie, he also employed the use of a different voice to make his character more realistic.
In the trailer, Morse asks Monteith, "Take it easy, doesn't your mother feed you?" To this Monteith responds: "I don't have a mother. I'm by myself."
The movie's director, Josh C. Waller told the Los Angeles Times in an interview back in July that Monteith found his role cathartic.
"You could sense it," he said. "In my mind, I was envisioning a teeny little drug guy, but Cory Monteith is a tall, strapping man. But when I met him, he wanted to do it so badly. He was very vocal about his past, and said he wanted to tap into things from his youth that he hadn't been able to use as an actor yet."
Monteith died July 13 from a mixed drug toxicity involving heroin and alcohol. He was found dead in his apartment, with news about his passing immediately making headlines.
His "Glee" family paid him a tribute on a show and offered an entire episode focused on his character Finn.
Before he died, Monteith also completed work on the movie "All the Wrong Reasons," which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last summer.
