"X-Men: Apocalypse" may have been about several mutants working together to defeat Oscar Isaac's En Sabah-Nur, but it looked like the true hero of the film was Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique. "X-Men: Apocalypse" director Bryan Singer has even declared that it might be time for Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique to finally get her own "X-Men" spin-off film. But which "X-Men" characters should appear in Mystique's solo movie?
Bryan Singer Says Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique Should Have "X-Men" Spinoff Movie
"X-Men: Apocalypse" director Bryan Singer recently spoke to Comic Book Movie, where he addressed that Mystique should get her own "X-Men" spinoff. However, the character might not be portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence.
"I think [Mystique's] right for [a solo film], whether it's Jennifer or not," Singer stated. The "X-Men: Apocalypse" director even explained by Mystique's story would be an excellent way to expand the "X-Men" cinematic universe where the traditional villain becomes a hero.
In "X-Men: Apocalypse," young mutants actually look up to the shapeshifter, who has always been a villain in the comic books. By the end of the film, Mystique is seen training Jean Grey, Cyclops, Storm and Nightcrawler in the X-Mansion.
Which "X-Men" Characters Should Appear In Mystique's Solo Film?
Mystique's origin story has been drastically changed in the new "X-Men" film series, although her comic book son Nightcrawler has finally been re-introduced in "X-Men: Apocalypse." Mystique actually saves Nightcrawler from a Berlin fight club and takes him to the X-Mansion. The return of Nightcrawler as a teenager has caused speculations that Mystique saved the mutant because she is her son with Azazel, who appeared in "X-Men: First Class" (the character was revealed as dead in "X-Men: Days of Future Past"). A Mystique solo film might finally confirm the connection between the two characters and the welcome return of Kodi Smit-McPhee as Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler.
