"Supergirl" has found its Superman on "Teen Wolf" star Tyler Hoechlin. The latest actor to don Man of Steel's costume will appear in the first two episodes of the show's second season.
Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman will be visiting his cousin Kara Danvers/Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) in National City, Entertainment Weekly reported. The iconic superhero was already shown in the first season of "Supergirl" -- albeit in glimpses and shadows that don't show his profile fully.
Superman's presence has been felt on the show and in Kara's life. He frequently exchanges online messages with his cousin and viewers got a peek of him in the final episodes of season one when Non (Chris Vance) activated the doomsday device Myriad.
"Supergirl" executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said he and show creator Greg Berlanti have "wanted to work with Tyler for ages." Kreisberg that they are "thrilled and humbled" to add Hoechlin in the list of actors who have played Superman over the years, Entertainment Weekly further reported.
Actors who have played Superman in the past are George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Dean Cain, Tom Welling, Brandon Routh and currently, Henry Cavill. Aside from his role on "Teen Wolf" as Derek Hale, Hoechlin appeared in the Tom Hanks film "Road to Perdition," "Fifty Shades of Grey," "Hall Pass" and "Everybody Wants Some."
'Supergirl' Moving To CW
Hoechlin's casting comes after it was announced that "Supergirl" is leaving CBS for The CW, the home network of DC's other superhero TV adaptations: "Arrow," "The Flash" and "Legends of Tomorrow." In May, CW chief Mark Pedowitz revealed that the four shows will join forces in the network's annual crossover event in December, calling the upcoming four-way crossover as "our biggest ever," according to a separate report from Entertainment Weekly. It remains to be seen if Hoechlin's Superman will appear in the epic event.
Stronger Supergirl
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kreisberg said that fans will see a "more mature" and a "more cohesive" Supergirl come season two. The heroine has learned how to incorporate her superhero identity into her life as the more normal Kara, and that has made her more confident about herself.
Other DC comics characters expected to make an appearance in season two are Lena Luthor, Maggie Sawyer, Snapper Carr, The Doctor and a mysterious newcomer named Nick Farrow, Den of Geek listed. There are also rumors about a Superboy appearance and the original Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, portraying the role of the president of the United States.
The second season of "Supergirl" will air Mondays this fall at 8PM ET on The CW.
