While Sony failed to present the PS4 Neo at the E3 2016 event this June, numerous sources are saying that the new console could be on shelves this holiday season. Early indications are that it will be coming in November 2016, a year ahead of the release of the Xbox One Scorpio, its immediate competition from Microsoft.
Eurogamer confirms receiving word from several sources that the launch of PS4 Neo is definitely set this year. Cinema Blend puts the date of the launch as November, specifically after Sony releases its PlayStation Virtual Reality (PSVR) headset in October. The PS4 Neo is supposed to render virtual reality games in 4K resolution in the best quality, which makes sense to complement these releases together.
Despite the pronouncements, there are still those that doubt the PS4 Neo could be out this year. This is largely because the console was never presented at the E3. The event is usually where game companies show off their upcoming best products and it's rather odd that Sony held off presenting the PS4 Neo.
However, Sony did say that it wanted to be ready when it unveils the PS4 Neo to the public, per a previous Parent Herald report. Nevertheless, there are still other events where the company can make its presentation, such as the Gamescon in Germany in August, the Tokyo Game Show in September, or the Paris Games Week in October.
Gear Nuke reports that Sony has yet to decide which expo the company will be joining. Sony might also just opt to do its PS4 Neo presentation independently, as it did when it launched the PS4 three years ago. At any rate, if sources are correct in saying the PS4 Neo is coming this year, there's bound to be a big announcement about the new console in the coming months.
