Nintendo has responded to online petitions on Change.org to urge the Japanese gaming giant to include Grimmie as a non-player character in their next game. Fans of singer Christina Grimmie knew that the former contestant on The Voice was a "Legend of Zelda" superfan who posted YouTube videos about the game and often tweeted about it. She openly expressed her love on the "Legend of Zelda" games besides her love for music. In fact, her YouTube username was zeldaxlove64.
A spokesperson for Nintendo told TIME, stating that the company is acknowledged the ongoing petitions of the fans' pouring support for Grimmie. Nintendo, however, said that it will not be making any definite decisions as the world continues to mourn for Grimmie's death in an understandable and wise manner.
One petition had nearly 59,000 signatures as of Wednesday evening requesting for a non-player character in the next "Legend of Zelda" game be named after Grimmie. Another petition is more specific, asking that the singer to be added as an elf and has more than 17,000 signatures, as per International Business Times.
One online petition mentioned that in a tweet before she dies, she asked God to let her come back as an elf when she dies. The fans know how much Christina Grimmie loved "Legend of Zelda" game, they want to see to it that her wish becomes a reality and trust that Nintendo can help them concluding that the request would be an amazing tribute to Christina Grimmie and see her as an elf in the new "Legend of Zelda" game.
Marcus Grimmie, Christina's brother, said her sister is the "biggest Zelda fan of all time" and deserves the honor, voicing his support for the petition. Followers of the singer often saw her posting YouTube videos about the game and tweeted her admiration and love for the series. One video she posted back in 2010 showed her posing in front of "Legend of Zelda" poster while adding music from Zelda into modern songs by artists such as Rihanna and Eminem.
Christina Grimmie got the third place of "The Voice season 6"; she was shot and killed on June 10 after a concert in Orlando, Florida. Her mourning fans created petitions to Change.org asking Nintendo to include the singer's image in an upcoming game ever since. The next highly anticipated installment in the iconic series, The "Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild" is set to release in 2017.
