People living with autism are thought to be weird. For a person on the autism spectrum, they usually express how they think people do not understand them, and how often they feel left out. This is the sentiment shared by one contributor author on an article in a website.
The Mighty published Kim Supermutt Goodman's article. Reading through the article, Kim expressed his desire to be normal just like everybody else. Living with autism, makes others think you are a weird person he says. People pass judgment on him, and others would laugh and talk about him behind his back. Others would assume things about him and it's hurtful that no matter how much advocates would provide awareness, people are still unwilling to learn and listen. Instead, they make up stories in their own mind with autism should be about.
According to Kim, he wants to advise people to get to know him firs before passing judgment. People with autism are interesting human beings. If people take time to enter into their world, they will learn more than they could imagine. An autism brain can see things that a typical person will not notice. They have the ability to think outside of the box.
The autism brain, might be considered a disability, but in reality, people living on the autism spectrum have abilities that cannot be done by typical human beings. Yes, when they are young they have a hard time understanding the world around them, but unlike the typical person, when an autism brain is able to overcome their challenges, they are stronger than you think than any of those considered normal.
People may criticize them but all they ever want is to be accepted for who they are. They are humans like us, capable of doing things and having big dreams. As Tech Insider has put it, they may think differently but their abilities can provide them fulfilling lives. Who know their special ability might just made us admire them all the more for fighting despite challenges.
Here is another guy who lived with autism. He also tried to explain what it's like having autism. It's inspiring, he is very brave.
