In December 2013, the whole world was shocked when Formula One (F1) superstar Michael Schumacher had a tragic skiing accident at the French Alpine Ski resort of Meribel in France. Many fans were devastated as the accident left Schumacher in a medically induced coma for six months due to a serious head injury.
As the world awaits for Michael Schumacher's anonymous fate, several reports about the seven-time F1 champ's health condition have circulated amid the media blackout requested by his family. Unfortunately, most if not all reports were treated as mere speculations until confirmed by Schumacher's longtime manager, Sabine Kehm.
Family Accepts Michael Schumacher's Health Condition
Despite the fact that Michael Schumacher's condition and recovery is plagued with uncertainties, Kehm recently revealed that his family has accepted and has been "learning to deal with" his condition. During Kehm's acceptance speech for Schumacher's Lifetime Achievement Award at the Nurburgring on May 27, she also revealed that they continue to hope for Schumi's recovery, Daily Express reports.
"This award is an acknowledgment of his great willpower, his motivation, his talent, his discipline and his work ethic," Kehm said, as per Sports Mole. "I realize we would all like it if Michael himself could be here, but unfortunately that is not possible. We have to accept it and learn to deal with it. We will continue to hope and do everything so that it will be different again."
Michael Schumacher's Recovery Continues
There have been no concrete bulletins regarding Michael Schumacher's current health condition but the 47-year-old German racer is reportedly recuperating in a custom-built, highly secured and state-of-the-art medical facility in his Lake Geneva mansion in Switzerland. He is receiving care and rehabilitation from a team of 15 medical specialists headed by professor Jean-Francois Payen 24/7, according to a previous Parent Herald report.
With the seriousness of his head injury, however, Michael Schumacher's recovery remains uncertain. But former Ferrari chief Luca Di Montezemolo recently hinted that Schumacher has been responding well to treatments, CNN notes.
Michael Schumacher's Family Selling Properties Due To Spiraling Healthcare Costs?
Michael Schumacher's family was reportedly struggling with the spiraling healthcare costs for his rehabilitation, which has already amounted to $15 million with $154,000 (£100,000) weekly expenses. In fact, Schumacher's wife Corinna reportedly sold their private jet and holiday pad, in spite of Schumacher's $800 million net worth.
The main reason, however, for the sold properties was the fact that Corinna had already accepted that Michael Schumacher will "never fully recover to enjoy them again," Daily Star learns. Despite what she said, the family remains hopeful about Schumacher's recovery.
Michael Schumacher's Family Still Hoping For Schumi's Recovery
It's already a known fact that updates and reports regarding Michael Schumacher's health condition has been scarce. But his family remains hopeful and confident about his condition, thanking fans for their unwavering support as seen on the social media campaign #KeepFightingMichael.
"We still receive wishes for Michael to get well soon every day, and still we are stunned by the sheer amount of sympathies," the Schumachers wrote on Michael's official website. "We can only always thank you for facing this fight together with him and us. We remain confident and hope the best for Michael. Your strength is helping us to keep supporting him."
