‘Person Of Interest’ Spinoff In The Works: Series Creator Teases Continuation Of Story After Finale

"Person of Interest" has officially come to an end after Season 5, but many fans took notice of the way the CBS sci-fi drama capped off its story and thought it was a hint that a spinoff was in the works. Series creator Jonathan Nolan addresses these rumors and whether the story could live on with a spinoff series.

"Person of Interest" Season 5 served as the series finale for the terrific yet underrated CBS sci-fi series. While many fans tried to save the show from cancellation through various online petition sites, the network ultimately decided to end the show after five seasons on air.

The "Person of Interest" Season 5 finale, however, seemingly offered hope to fans and viewers that the story of team Machine is far from being over. According to Cinema Blend, the finale, which showed Shaw smile over a phone call made fans believe that the story can still live on for more seasons.

Series creator Jonathan Nolan told the publication that there was a reason behind Shaw's smile at the "POI" Season 5 finale. Nolan said, however, that this was not a hint that the story will continue for another season.

"I think [the smile] is much about hearing Root's voice," said Nolan. "But the clear implication is that that relationship continues in its new form - and that the franchise continues."

Despite Nolan's clarifications that the "Person of Interest" Season 5 finale should not be taken as a sign that a spinoff was in the works, many fans still remain optimistic about the show's future. An ongoing petition is still being raised on Change.org in hopes of renewing the series for Season 6.

The petition has already raised over 47,000 supporters as of writing. Fans are calling upon other networks such as Netflix and Amazon to renew "Person of Interest" Season 5, citing reasons such as LGBT and mental disorder representations.
