If you are looking for a more secretive way to have chats on Messenger, you are in luck because Facebook, one of the biggest social media platforms, is planning to use end-to-end encryption so as to make messages read only by the sender and the receiver as well as a self-destructive feature.
Facebook's secret conversation will let only the sender and the recipient read the messages between them and the social media platform said in a blog post that they have heard about other asking for additional safeguards regarding the chats sent on Messenger.
The post added, "...perhaps when discussing private information like an illness or a health issue with trusted friends and family, or sending financial information to an accountant." As for the self-destruct feature, the messages could be given expiration dates for it to be deleted automatically, Irish Examiner reported.
How Does the Facebook Secret Conversation Work?
Facebook continued to explain that the secret conversations will be using the end-to-end encryption wherein the message can only be read on one device of the person that the sender is communicating with.
With the end-to-end encryption setting, Facebook employees, government officials, law enforcement officials, or other people will not be able to look at the Messenger conversations that one person has with another person who has selected the secret conversation feature. This then means that the messages will not be hacked.
This also means that officials investigating messages on the social media platform will not be able to access the messages despite the presence of a warrant. Those who will be using the secret conversation feature will also not be able to send GIFs or videos. Payments will also not be sent if the feature is turned on.
When Will This Feature be Available on Facebook's Messenger?
This feature will be turned on by default. Facebook will be testing this to a limited population and could be experienced by a wider number by summer next year. They will also be using Signal Protocol developed by Open Whisper Systems. The company is the same firm that provided the end-to-end encryption setting for WhatsApp.
