'Battlefield' 1 Release Date, News & Update: EA Game TV Series Influenced By 'Bad Company' Spin Off? 'Mr Robot' Production To Assist Media Stream Expansion Effort?

Paramount studios have now bought the rights to Electronic Arts (EA) "Battlefield" franchise in the form of a TV series. Also helping to mount the "Battlefield" TV series is Anonymous Content, the production house behind Rami Malek and Sam Esmail's "Mr Robot."

The EA Battlefield series has been the gaming world's only real alternative to the behemoth that is "Call of Duty" in the sub genre of military shooters. However, unlike "Battlefield" "Call Of Duty" is known for its story campaign and as well its robust multiplayer.

The "Battlefield" series, on the other hand, has only really ever been at its core a solid and compelling multiplayer shooter. A single player campaign plays second fiddle for the "Battlefield" series.

Variety reports that Paramount studios have now bought the rights to develop a TV adaptation of the EA "Battlefield" series, collaborating with the Anonymous content team, which popularized hits as "Mr Robot" and "True Detective. The "Battlefield" TV series clearly could be more evidence that EA is looking to expand its franchises to other media streams.

EA most recently launched the "Mass Effect: New Earth" theme park attraction as Parent Herald reports. EA media stream expansion was also seen with their IPs "Dead Space," "Dante's Inferno" and "Need for Speed."

The announcement is unexpected among "Battlefield" fans. As mentioned "Battlefield" has mainly had its loyalty from fans in the established multiplayer and not single player area of the game.

That is of course unless we consider the possibility that the "Battlefield: Bad Company" spin off series of games could somehow influence this project. "Battlefield: Bad Company" was an attempt by EA to extend the "Battlefield" gameplay into a storing single player story direction.

The games follow the unit of Bad Company, a crew of oddball soldiers tasked with thankless missions to pay off some misdemeanor in their past. The story of the first game played heavily off the story of George Clooney, Ice Cube and Mark Whalberg 1999 film "Three Kings".

Although "Battlefield: Bad Company" only went as far as a duology, the games' small cast of irreverent characters, played straight, immediately struck a chord in gamers who were used to and most probably were bored with hard-boiled Jason Statham clones saying and doing the same stone cold things in the same stone cold way in the military sub-genre of games.

For the time being, fans will most probably only casually wait for news on the "Battlefield" TV series project. As pointed by a Parent Herald report the target "Battlefield" TV series release date and casting details are yet to be announced.
