While "Constantine" has been cancelled on television for nearly two years, fans are still clamoring for the show's return. Matt Ryan, who played John Constantine on the TV show, has been reliving his character with at least two guest appearances on "Arrow" last season. With him always game for playing the part, the hope for "Constantine" Season 2 lives on.
Now, it has been confirmed that "Constantine" will indeed return with Matt Ryan reprising his role. Although, it's not for "Constantine" Season 2, but for a different project with DC Comics, which is scheduled for release sometime in the fall this year.
Constantine Is On 'Justice League Dark'
iO9 confirmed that John Constantine is in the new animated movie "Justice League Dark" and Matt Ryan is the voice of the character. This version of "Justice League" doesn't feature the usual superheroes like Batman, Superman or Wonder Woman. Joining John Constantine are Black Orchid, Deadman, Etrigan, Swamp Thing and Zatanna.
According to Cinema Blend, casting Matt Ryan as John Constantine on the animated series has been kept hush-hush, along with the rest of the actors. However, everything was revealed at the recent Comic Con panel for the movie.
"I really wanted to jump into the project to play Constantine in a different context," the actor said in the video. Check out the sneak peek of "Justice League Dark" below:
'Constantine' Season 2 Renewed? Not True, Says Showrunner
Meanwhile, despite different reports that "Constantine" will be revived on TV, its former showrunner, Daniel Cerone, stated that there have been no talks taking place. "Constantine" Season 1 has been running on The CW Seed, which led fans to conclude The CW might be interested in renewing the show.
But Daniel Cerone clarified that The CW Seed's operation is different from the network, thus, the potential for a "Constantine" revival isn't likely happening. However, he remains supportive of Matt Ryan reprising his role in other productions in a tweet addressed to a follower.
"Constantine" aired on NBC from Oct. 24, 2014 to Feb. 13, 2015. Based on the DC Comics series created by Alan Moore, John Constantine is also known as Hellblazer. He was played by Keanu Reeves in the 2005 movie adaptation.
