"Half Life" fans have been clamoring for the next installment of the franchise. According to reports, "Half Life 3" is not coming at all but many are still hoping that it will. Reports have it that Valve will release "Half Life 3" in 2018 to celebrate the franchise's 20th anniversary.
Parent Herald previously reported that "Half Life 3" is not coming anymore. Fans have been waiting for the title for over a decade but Valve is mum about their progress. In addition, the developers did not confirm about their plans for "Half Life's" future.
In a separate report from Parent Herald, some sources claim that "Half Life 3" will be available by 2018 with full VR support. "Half Life" fans are firm in their belief that the anticipated title will return someday.
For "Half Life" fans who are still hoping for the third installment of the franchise, you might see "Half Life 3" in two years. According to Tech Report, the buzz about "Half Life 3" getting a 2018 release is getting louder. Many are confident that Valve will release it in the said year because it will mark "Half Life's" 20th anniversary.
By then "Half Life" is already two decades and the wait for its third iteration took over a decade. The wait might be worth it because per Master Herald, the developers have already talked with Taiwan-tech giant HTC to develop their game in HTC Vive for a virtual reality experience.
Although a VR "Half Life 3" is appealing not everyone is sold on the idea. Ken Birdwell told WCCFtech earlier that they are still working on it and explained that putting all the actions of "Half Life" in VR will fatigue the players in just a few minutes.
"How do we pull the player through this immersion? If players actually did all of the actions from Half-Life in VR, they'd be fatigued in five minutes. It doesn't mean we can't use that fiction; we just have to figure out a new way to approach it," Birdwell said.
