Tom Clancy’s 'The Division’ Latest News & Update: Now To Have A Movie Adaptation; Jake Gyllenhaal Gets The Lead Role

Tom Clancy's latest video game hit, "The Division", is going to have its own movie adaptation with Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role. "The Division" is the latest in Clancy's series of military-themed video games, and has become a worldwide success since it's release in March 2016.

Set in a dystopian Manhattan, where a virus has torn down society, "The Division", a team of highly trained sleeper agents, is activated to restore order in the now chaotic metropolis. Gyllenhaal, who is likely set to play one of the agents from "The Division", will co-star alongside Jessica Chastain (The Martian, Interstellar) whose role is yet to be revealed.

Gyllenhaal will not only star in "The Division" film adaptation but according to Variety, the "Southpaw" actor will also be on board as on of the film's producers. Ubisoft, the film's development studio, is also currently looking for writers to complete the film's script.

The announcement for the live action movie of "The Division" came shortly after its record-breaking worldwide release in March 2016, grossing over $330 million in sales just after five days, as stated by GameSpot. No doubt that the success of the game will have moviegoers anticipating the film's release.

"The Division" will be Gyllenhaal's second time starring in a video game film adaptation, after playing "Dastan" in 2010's "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time", which was met with mixed reviews from critics.

Ubisoft has currently lined up a string of film adaptations for successful video games including "Assassin's Creed" starring Michael Fassbender which will be released in late 2016, "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell" which will star British actor Tom Hardy, and "Watch Dogs" among other successful franchises, including "The Division"

"The Division" is still in the early stages of development and is yet to have a confirmed release date. What do you think of a possible movie adaptation for Tom Clancy's "The Division?" Share us your thoughts below.
