"Supergirl" Season 2 is going to battle it out with a familiar face from DC Comics. Set photos and videos from the Vancouver location, where the cast and crew are currently filming, have surfaced online to reveal that Supergirl and Superman are going head to head together against Metallo.
But just who is Metallo to non-comic book readers? How much of a threat is this new villain to National City?
The CW has made no official announcements about Metallo coming to "Supergirl" Season 2 just yet. However, leaked photos and videos from the set show the character facing off against the super cousins and the Martian Manhunter J'onn J'onzz.
Digital Spy notes that The CW also featured Metallo in the defunct series "Smallville" during its ninth season run. The actor who played the villain back then was Brian Austin Green. It's still not clear who is playing Metallo in "Supergirl" Season 2, but check out these leaked photos below.
Metallo is a well-known Superman enemy in the comic book world. First making an appearance in the comics in 1959, Metallo is a cyborg who possesses powers from Krypton and has liquid metal body parts that he can turn into weapons. He doesn't require eating, sleeping nor breathing. His alter ego is a journalist named John Corben, and he also worked at the Daily Planet just like Clark Kent, per Comic Vine.
Meanwhile, Bleeding Cool reports that "Supergirl" Season 2's four-way crossover with "Arrow," "The Flash" and "Legends of Tomorrow" might happen with the "Flashpoint" storyline. Because the female superhero appears in a different dimension than the rest, the continuity element will be addressed via time travel.
Another report suggests the superheroes will face against "one unifying threat" in the "Supergirl" Season 2 crossover, per Screen Hype. "Arrow" star Stephen Amell teased on Twitter that filming for the crossover episodes might have already started.
"Supergirl" Season 2 will premiere on Monday, Oct. 10 on The CW. The show stars Melissa Benoist, Chyler Leigh, David Harewood, Mehcad Brooks and Jeremy Jordan. Tyler Hoechlin appears for the first time this upcoming season as Superman.
