Adding to the roster of new young millionaires, Wings Gaming definitely deserved the coveted win at the recently concluded TI16 DOTA 2 championships. Not only do the young gamers have the DOTA 2 championships under their belt, they also celebrated their team captain's birthday a few days before the main event.
Aside from taking home the Aegis of Champions as ultimate victors of TI16 DOTA 2 championships, Wings Gaming also earned up to $9,139,002 as grand prize money, according to Gamepedia. The young professional DOTA team from China are made up of members: Shadow (Chu Zeyu), bLink (Zhou Yang), Faith_bian (Zhang Ruida), y丶(Zhang Yiping), and iceice (Li Peng).
Wings Gaming took over Team Liquid during the ESL One Manila tournament in April this year, winning $100K in the process. Then the team finally headed off to square with the rest of world's best DOTA team qualifiers, where Wings Gaming bested team DC (Digital Chaos) for the DOTA 2 championships.
Prior to gaining the upper hand against team DC at TI16, Wings Gaming slowly inched their way between tournaments as one of the newest teams in the DOTA gaming arena, in a related Mashable post. They also celebrated y丶innocence's 18th birthday (support/current team captain) last August 7th.
Best guess: his coming of age surely came at a most appropriate time with their team win. Wings Gaming fun fact: Faith_bian is also the same age as y' innocence, with bLink being the oldest Wings Gaming member at 24.
The DOTA 2 championships at TI16 saw teams that exacted strategic gameplay and well-rounded use of resources during the games. Wings Gaming proved that carefully planned draft plays and team effort made them rise above the rest of the other teams.
So, what's next for Wings Gaming? For Valve Corporation, the company would most likely continue its campaign against unofficial skin gambling sites.
