'Stranger Things' Season 2 Renewal News & Update: Stephen King Tapped To Write Episodes? Netflix Exec Explains Renewal Delay

As Netflix has not officially announced a "Stranger Things" Season 2 renewal, fan theories and speculations on the internet about what could happen next have been popping everywhere. One particular story suggests Stephen King has been tapped to write new episodes for the upcoming season. But how true is this claim?

The Studio Exec reports that "Stranger Things" Season 2 will have Stephen King writing the episodes for the series, with the Duff brothers -- Matt and Ross -- still taking charge as showrunners and creators. The site claims exclusivity of its report, with quotes allegedly coming from the Duff brothers as confirmation. However, Snopes debunked the story saying that the news is not factual and "The Studio Exec is a satirical website."

The false news doesn't come as a surprise given the way the show's success has bred different reports. Stephen King did commend the series in a tweet after having seen the show himself. The Duff brothers, who are admittedly big fans of the best-selling author, could not believe that Stephen King liked the show. "You just don't think about it reaching those people," one of the brothers' said, per Hit Fix. "Stranger Things" actually takes points from many of Stephen King's works.

Meanwhile, Netflix actually addressed why the renewal of "Stranger Things" hasn't been announced just yet. Executive Ted Sarandos told the press during a panel back in July that the company is giving the show time to breathe, especially since it has just released its full 8-episode.

"With so many really falling in love with season one, and people who haven't really seen episodes of season one just yet, let's focus on season one right now," said Sarandos via Entertainment Weekly. Fans have no reason to doubt the show will be renewed, though, as "Stranger Things" is summer's biggest unexpected hit.
