The eleventh season of "Supernatural" didn't end on a high note for Crowley. The king of Hell was ousted from his rule in the underworld and as expected, he wants to take back his crown. That would be hard for him, though, given that his former minions aren't exactly willing to declare him king again.
In a recent interview with TV Insider, Mark Sheppard said his character Crowley's "worst nightmare" finally happened in the form of Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino) escaping his cage and shaming him. Crowley is also now at odds with his witch mother, Rowena (Ruth Connell), a situation which could spell out even more nasty things between their already rocky relationship when Season 12 premieres.
Sheppard said Crowley missed his bromance with Dean (Jensen Ackles). The 52-year-old actor added how important that friendship is to the demon and the end of that bond caused Crowley to mess up his rule in Hell.
Sheppard believes Crowley just "wants everyone to like him" and he thinks his job as king of Hell as his "destiny." He may display a façade that he doesn't care about the goings-on in his life but the truth is, "he'd be a bit lost" without his crown, Sheppard told TV Insider.
For "Supernatural" Season 12, Sheppard said Crowley would do what it takes to retake Hell, though that wouldn't be an easy endeavor for him, with Lucifer as one of his "overpowering obstacles." Lucifer was cast out of the angel Castiel's (Misha Collins) body in Season 11, but he would take another form (Rick Springfield) in the upcoming season of "Supernatural."
It's not all dark for Crowley, though. Season 11 hinted at a possible romance between Crowley and the soul reaper Billie (Lisa Berry), who replaced Death after he was killed in "Supernatural" Season 10. Sheppard said Crowley is "enamored" with Billie and she's a woman "who has everything Crowley wants." The actor said a romance between his character and Billie is definitely a high possibility.
The Season 12 finale of "Supernatural" showcased God a.k.a. Chuck Shurley (Rob Benedict) and his vicious sister, Amara (Emily Swallow), reconciling. Sheppard said the same thing could happen between Crowley and Rowena, but the fact that she is an untrustworthy woman would continue looming over their heads.
Sheppard said Crowley and Rowena can always kill each other when the opportunity strikes, but what's fun about the whole thing is they can't seem to do that. "Supernatural" Season 12 premieres on Thursday, October 13, 9/8c, on The CW.
