‘Pokémon GO’ Generation 2 Update & Release: VR Support, New Incense, Trading System, ‘Buddy’ & Legendary Pokémon Coming

Recent reports claimed that daily active "Pokémon GO" users are on the decline, prompting speculations that the augmented-reality game has reached its peak. The game, however, isn't ready to let go of you yet. Niantic is gearing up to release the "Pokémon GO" Generation 2 update and it's packed with new features and improvements that would renew and retain people's interest in the game.

Redditors explored the inner workings of "Pokémon GO" and found codes that indicate what Niantic is planning for the game's future, BusinessInsider reported. One of the updates the folks from Reddit have datamined is virtual reality support. This feature would allow people to play the game using Google Cardboard.

Niantic will release a trading system for the "Pokémon GO" update as well. With this, players can trade their Pokémon and allow other trainers to browse through their captured monsters and take their pick.

Incense, an item that boosts the number of Pokémon in spawn locations near a player, will be expanded. In the upcoming "Pokémon GO" update, trainers can activate a new Incense type that can attract a specific type of Pokémon.

The new Incense codes from "Pokémon GO" are listed as 'item_incense_spicy', 'item_incense_cool', and 'item_incense_floral,' Game Rant listed. It's safe to assume that these codes are aimed to specifically target a certain Pokémon type, perhaps Ice, Fire, and Grass-Types.

The "Pokémon GO" Generation 2 update will also feature a "Buddy" system. With this, players can assign a "Buddy" Pokémon to themselves and make the creature follow them as they move on the map. The Pokémon will evolve as its master acquires goodies and items on the game.

The release of Legendary Pokémon is probably one of the most anticipated update of the game. Legendary and rare Pokémon are indeed entering "Pokémon GO," but details are still being kept close by Niantic at the moment.

There are speculations that encounters with Legendary Pokémon are entirely dependent on players' certain level. The Legendary and rare Pokémon expected in "Pokémon GO" are Mew, Mewtwo, Ditto, and the Legendary birds Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres.

The dataminers from Reddit also found references to a fort including 'add_fort_modifier' and 'fort_deploy_Pokémon.' The forts could serve as a different take on Gyms' capture-and-hold gameplay, but there's a chance the forts are connected to how Legendary Pokémon would be captured in special events.
