The Los Angeles Lakers remain one of the busier teams in the NBA over the summer, as they add another new name to their roster with the signing of college basketball standout, Zach Auguste from the University of Notre Dame. With this new addition, the Lakers look to improve their roster's depth, heading into the 2016-2017 regular season.
Zach Auguste, an alumni of the University of Notre Dame, was one of the star players of the Fighting Irish, the college's basketball team. Auguste led the Fighting Irish to the Elite Eight of the ACC basketball tournament for the first since 1979, and despite a magnificent performance, Notre Dame fell short of the championship after losing to tournament favorites, Kentucky.
Auguste went undrafted in 2016 NBA draft, but was selected to join the Los Angeles Lakers' summer league where he showed plenty of promise. With the Lakers having a rocky front court, as star center Roy Hibbert's status remaining unsure, and with power forward Julius Randle having a less than stellar season, Auguste's addition could be just what they need, according to the LA Sports Hub.
During the NBA summer league, Auguste averaged 5.3 points and 4.0 rebounds after playing 15 minutes per game, while given the chance to start just once, according to a report from NBA.com.
While these numbers don't necessarily jump out of the box score, it makes for a decent pre-season warm up for Auguste, who has not yet played in the professional level.
The Los Angeles Lakers now have one of the youngest core groups in the NBA, with Jordan Clarkson, Brandon Ingram, D'Angelo Russel, Julius Randle, and Nick Young taking charge of the Lakers.
The Lakers s also has some veteran players in their squad in the form of Jose Calderon, Metta World Peace, Luol Deng, and most recently, Chinese big man Yi Jianlian, has been added to the mix.
