Fans of the "Half Life" franchise remains hopeful to see its third iteration soon. Reports have it that "Half Life 3" will be coming out in 2018 but new sources claimed that it is not coming anymore. Learn why.
Parent Herald previously reported that "Half Life 3" is not coming out anymore. We picked up the hints from Valve CEO Gabe Newell who openly expressed his disinterest in doing another "Half Life" game.
Per News Independent, Gabe Newell said that they will only go back to do the super classic type of games like "Half Life" if the majority of the people in Valve want it and have a reasonable explanation to do so. Newell added that doing another "Half Life" game would be a bad choice as it is like ignoring all the things they learned in shipping "Portal 2."
Aside from Newell's lack of interest in pursuing "Half Life 3," Marc Laidlaw who worked for the game already resigned. Thus, "Half Life 3's" future is bleak.
Aside from these facts, according to Kotaku another huge reason why there is no "Half Life 3" is because its main character is already dead. Who do you think is its main character?
Per the report, the "Half Life 2" series follows Eli Vance story and the character is already dead. In the first "Half Life" game, no one witnesses your defeat of the Nihilanth, you will only see the first real object in "Half Life 2" where you get to meet Eli.
"Half Life 2" is divided into three phase. First, you have to save Eli's daughter. In the second phase, you will escort her to Eli and in the last phase defend Eli. Eli will finally tell you what he was going to tell you and then he dies.
So, basically, in "Half Life 2" you are Eli's support or helper. Now that he is gone, you are stuck and there is not more story to tell in "Half Life 3." While "Half Life" made you earn your place, you lose this thing in "Half Life 2."
Do you agree that it is unlikely for Valve to push "Half Life 3" because the main character in "Half Life 2" is dead? Couldn't they make a new plot with a new character? What do you think? Are you still hoping to see "Half Life 3" in 2018? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
