'American Gothic' Season 1 Finale News & Updates: Showrunner Dishes On Season 2 As Renewal Hopes Mount

"American Gothic" will air its two-episode season finale on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 10 p.m. on CBS. While the network has yet to confirm the show for a second season, "American Gothic" showrunner Corinne Brinkerhoff has revealed that there's already a story for Season 2.

Brinkerhoff said that "American Gothic" will eventually deal with a new family and a new storyline in Season 2, if and when it gets a renewal. She told The Wrap that her original pitch to CBS involved developing the show for five or six seasons. "Each season would be a different family, different setting, different mystery," she said, adding that in doing so, the writers on "American Gothic" can "reinvent the family and the story, which we can do over and over again."

"American Gothic" Season 1 features the influential Hawthorne family from Boston and stars Virginia Madsen, Antony Starr, Juliet Rylance, Gabriel Bateman, Justin Chatwin, Megan Ketch Elliot Knight and Stephanie Leonidas. The drama thriller is focused on the Silver Bells Killer's (SBK) murders and interestingly enough, Brinkerhoff said that no one from the actors know who SBK really is even if they have shot the ending.

However, viewers should not be left hanging when "American Gothic" Season 1 ends this week as the showrunner promised there will be a satisfactory resolution to the Hawthorne's story. Viewers will get the answers, but they might also get a hint of where the show is headed next. The hope is that "American Gothic" will return for another summer run next year, as it was pitched to be a summer TV offering.

Meanwhile, this week's finale will culminate on Election Day. As the Hawthornes prepare for the result of Alison's (Rylance) candidacy , they will soon learn more about the serial killer that has been taunting their family. The episode synopsis shared on TV Grapevine hints that someone from the family will die.

Catch the season finale of "American Gothic" Season 1 on CBS at 10 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7. Stay tuned for updates about Season 2 here on Parent Herald.
