'Narcos' Season 2 Renewal News & Updates: No End For Series Yet? EP Reveals Where Show Is Heading Next

The second season of "Narcos" is already out on Netflix since Friday, Sept. 2. Even before the full season release, the streaming site has fully disclosed that the lead character of the season, Pablo Escobar (played by Wagner Moura), would meet his death when Season 2 is over.

However, Escobar's death doesn't indicate that "Narcos" is completely done, as it can still go on for two or more seasons. Once Netflix confirms "Narcos" for Season 3, the executive producers already have an idea for its next story. In fact, it was hinted in the final episodes of "Narcos" Season 2.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, "Narcos" executive producer Eric Newman said that the next season could focus on the Cali cartel, which was operated and headed by drug kingpin Helmer "Pacho" Herrera. Newman said that there is more to be explored about the Colombian cocaine business after Escobar, which will pave the way for the story on the Mexican drug trade. These stories could be tacked in the third and fourth season of "Narcos" respectively.

The focus on the Cali cartel in the progression of the storytelling in "Narcos" is how it actually happens in Colombia's history. The Wrap notes that after Escobar's death, the Cali cartel grew its business even bigger, as they supplied 90 percent of the world's cocaine demand.

The Cali cartel also had a former CIA involved in its operation. Jorge Salcedo was actually introduced in "Narcos" Season 2, and in the actual events, he became the Cali cartel's head of security. But after severing his ties with the Herrera and the cartel, Salcedo became a state witness and he and his family are currently living under the witness protection program in the U.S.

"Narcos" creator Jose Padilha said that there's a lot that can still be shown about the narcotics industry, especially with the inclusion of the United States in controlling it. The producers see no actual end in sight for "Narcos" just yet.

"This show is about the choice (the U.S. made) about the war on drugs - to deal with it as if it were a problem of supply," Padilha said, per Variety. "We'll stop when the drug trade stops," he added.

All they're waiting for now is for Netflix to confirm Season 3. Stay tuned for the updates!
