Has Chloe Moretz dropped out of "Little Mermaid"? The young actress was cast in the iconic role back in 2015 for Universal Studio's adaptation, but production has yet to get rolling. Now, Chloe Moretz says she's making changes in her life, which could affect "Little Mermaid." Meanwhile, Disney is also doing its live action adaptation with Lin-Manuel Miranda doing the music for the movie.
Chloe Moretz told The Hollywood Reporter that she's "pulling the plug on all [my] movies." While she didn't particularly mention "Little Mermaid," this has been one of her commitments for the year. "I want to reassess who I am and find myself within my roles again," the 19-year-old actress said.
Teen Vogue reports that the star won't be completely quitting the business though because she's still working behind the scenes. She is producing two TV shows, which she hopes to eventually sell to networks.
Universal's "Little Mermaid" starring Chloe Moretz is based off the Hans Christian Andersen story about a mermaid who longs to become human and falls in love with a prince. The screenplay, which will have a modern take, was written by Richard Curtis and Sofia Coppola was involved in its initial development before the director left the project, per Variety. It's still unclear when production for this film will begin.
Meanwhile, Disney is also doing its own live action take on "Little Mermaid." The production is getting a boost with the addition of Lin-Manuel Miranda. Per Deadline, the actor and musical genius is working with Alan Menken for some of the songs to the movie.
Disney has previously adapted the Hans Christian Andersen classic into an animation, which was released in 1989 and has helped the studio kick start the golden age in the world of animation. The studio's version of "Little Mermaid" has yet to cast its lead actress, who will play the role of Ariel. The movie's release date has also not been calendared in just yet.
