Being a celebrity and single mom surely is not something easy. Taraji P. Henson shares how she manages to be the best mom she can be to her son while staying on top of her career.
Taraji P. Henson, a 45-year-old Hollywood icon, shares in the October issue of Redbook magazine that she puts her son, Marcel, first in everything, according to E! News. Mothers are naturally protective, but for Taraji Henson, it is important to try not to be overprotective with your children. "These days we're so busy protecting our kids, when we really should be pulling back the blinds and showing them that we live in a world that's not always fair and moral," she said.
The "Empire" star went on to explain that when parents give too much protection, they take away their child's ability to deal with his/her own adversity in life. Overprotection will do them more harm as they come unprepared to handle their own life. And for single mothers, what Taraji P. Henson can say is that "I think we try to do our best. And yes, we can do it all...[but] it is not easy."
Putting your child first may be easier said than done for many people, but Taraji P. Henson said that even in her love life, her son is her top consideration. According to Taraji Henson, if she is going to get married, which she is still hopeful about, she wants Marcel to witness the real kind of love. "That old couple crooked and bent over but still holding hands. I know that kind of love exists, and I'm not going to stop until I have that," she explained.
Marcel is now 22 years old. Taraji P. Henson was pregnant of him while she was in high school. Marcel's father was murdered in 2003.
