‘Pokémon GO’ Tips & Tricks: Why You Shouldn’t Catch Grimer & Ivysaur; Niantic Addresses Bugs

It is expected in "Pokémon GO" players to catch all the Pokémon they encounter in the wild but there are exceptions, too. Users said catching Grimer and Ivysaur should be avoided as much as possible because they cause the game to glitch in the player's device.

Catching or hatching Grimer, a Poison-Type Pokémon, has caused "Pokémon GO" to crash in some players' devices, Otakukart reported. There are users who experienced glitches or app crashes after coming face-to-face with Grimer in a Gym. The glitch also occurs when a player attempts to scroll past the Pokémon in the Pokédex or Journal.

Other "Pokémon GO" players reported glitches whenever they get a Grimer with perfect IVs ((15/15/15 - 733 CP, 104 HP, and 2500 DP) from an Egg. These glitches, however, only occur on Android devices and iOS users don't seem to have the same problem.

The Ivysaur bug, on the other hand, causes "Pokémon GO" to crash when the creature was clicked to view its 3D model, when you encounter Ivysaur in the wild, and if you see the creature in a Gym. These problems crash the game entirely and lead to what users called the "white screen of death," according to Heavy.

The Ivysaur bug was said to affect other Pokémon as well. When the bug kicks in, players may not be able to see Pokémon in the wild and in Gyms. Hatching an Egg is also impossible when the Ivysaur bug happens.

"Pokémon GO" developer and publisher Niantic has recently taken steps to fix the Grimer and Ivysaur bugs. Some users said the fix didn't come from the latest 0.37.0 update and was instead aimed for users playing with an older version of the game, Pokémon GO Hub reported.

The devices One Plus One (0.37.0 APK), Samsung Galaxy S6 (0.35.0 Google Play version), and iPhone 6 (1.5.0 iTunes version) didn't encounter glitches upon encountering scenarios with Grimer and Ivysaur in it. "Pokémon GO" didn't crash while fighting Grimer in a Gym and when it was being viewed in the wild or in the Pokédex.

The same can be said for Ivysaur. Thanks to Niantic's fix, the Ivysaur 3D model can now be displayed without any hitch. Future Pokémon encounters weren't affected after opening Ivysaur's 3D model and no Pokémon was hidden from the map.
