Richard Madden played the unforgettable Rob Stark on "Game of Thrones" for three seasons. Having been away from the small screen for years, the actor is seeking a return. Madden is headlining Amazon's new drama series "Strange New Things."
Per Deadline, "Strange New Things" starring Richard Madden is based on a book written by Michel Faber. The story follows a priest named Peter (Madden), who is sent to space to establish a new colony. Conflict comes into play as his faith, skills and relationships are tested.
"Strange New Things" will be adapted from book to television by Matt Charman, who did the screenplay for "Bridge of Spies." The pilot episode, which will be an hour long, will be directed by Kevin MacDonald.
TV Line reports that if the pilot gets greenlighted on Amazon, there will be 10 episodes for the first season of "Strange New Things." Development for the series was first announced in April, with a production target scheduled for the end of 2016. Amazon has yet to confirm its screening debut date.
Reviews of the original source, "The Book of Strange New Things," which was published in 2014, received five stars via Telegraph and has 3.67 rating against more than 17,000 raters on Goodreads. According to The Guardian, the story is "astonishing and deeply affecting," while the New York Times notes that while the story isn't groundbreaking, "Strange New Things" could be one of the "best works of science fiction."
After leaving "Game of Thrones" as Rob Stark, Richard Madden went on to do movies and starred in the Disney blockbuster, the "Cinderella" live action feature with Lily James. The actor was also seen in "Bastille Day" and will soon be featured in the historical drama series "Medici: Masters of Florence" with Dustin Hoffman. The show will be airing mostly in Europe, per Variety. It's still unclear if "Medici" will make it to the U.S. audience.
