Some smartphone users who bought units of Apple's newly released iPhone 7 line are reporting issues with their phones, specifically that the device is producing a strange hissing sound, though the what is producing the sound or what it could mean for the device is still unsure.
Stephen Hackett of 512 Pixels was one of the first to share the strange hissing noise of the iPhone 7, as reported by CNET. Hackett explained that as he was restoring the software content of his brand new iPhone 7 Plus from the iCloud, he began hearing a strange hissing sound emitting from the device.
Going on to check further, the noise was apparently coming from the back of Hackett's new iPhone 7 Plus. Hackett created a recording of the noise, which he shared on the 512 Pixels YouTube channel, showing that his specific iPhone 7 Plus unit was indeed producing a hissing sound.
Apparently, the hissing sound became even louder when placing the iPhone 7 Plus' software under load. The increased noise is apparently enough to the point that one can supposedly hear it from some distance away, not requiring to place the iPhone 7 Plus close to the ear.
One belief is that the noise is being produced by iPhone 7 Plus' CPU, considering application load seems to directly affect the degree of the hissing sound. As it seems that the hissing sound is the only strange phenomena, it is uncertain specifically what is causing the iPhone 7 Plus to produce a hissing sound or what it could affect, as Hackett did not report any other problems like heat.
After reporting his concerns to AppleCare, they have since agreed to replace Hackett's unit though the iPhone 7's hissing sound issue is apparently more widespread than initially thought. Twitter user Darrell Etherington issued a post detailing his own experience of the iPhone 7's hissing sound, explaining that he did not even have to restore his phone and was just downloading some files.
Other Twitter users have also begun reporting experiencing the same issues, including the hashtag "#hissinggate" in their posts. Though it seems that, so far, only the hissing sound seems to be sole issue for the iPhone 7 Plus, but concerns are rising especially in light of the exploding problems of the line's fellow 2016-release Galaxy Note 7 from Samsung.
