Rumors abound that indicate Samsung might be in the middle of testing out Google's new Android 7.0 Nougat operating system for its new line of devices, with some speculating that the system might be rolling out to the Samsung Galaxy S7 and its S7 Edge cousin soon.
GSM Arena reported on the possibility of the Android 7.0 Nougat coming to the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge, with information shared by The Android Soul. A series of screenshots of listings of benchmarking tests were leaked, with the details indicating they were done on the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge.
One of the screenshots indicated it was done on a Samsung device with a SM-G935F model designation, and running on the Android 7.0 Nougat. The model series designation for the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is SM-G935x, with the final digit differing between carriers and regions, so the benchmark screenshot is definitely for a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge device.
Another screenshot featured the model number SM-G930F, with SM-G930x being the series model designation for the Galaxy S7, so it means testing for the base Samsung Galaxy S7 is also ongoing as well. The Samsung Galaxy S7 family currently run on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow, though it seems like Samsung is getting ready to change that by testing the Android 7.0 Nougat.
When the Android 7.0 Nougat was released in late August by Google, Android engineers indicated it would be coming first to the Nexus devices. Now, it seems that Samsung is aiming to get its phones next in line by testing the operating system out on both the Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge.
Though the testing does not yet indicate any concrete prospect, Samsung following through on installing the Android 7.0 Nougat on the Galaxy S7 will also bring good tidings to owners of older Samsung devices. As the company usually follows a two-year or two-major update plan for any device line, even the Galaxy S6 might very well receive the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system update as well.
