A new teaser for "Narcos" Season 3 has just been released, which features Damian Alcazar as the head of the Cali Cartel, Gilberto Rodriguez Orejuela. But with the latest promo video, fans still want to know if Javier Peña would still appear in the third season of "Narcos." The character was instrumental in the show's first two seasons, which explored drug kingpin Pablo Escobar's life.
The latest "Narcos" Season 3 teaser opens with Mexican star, Paquita la Del Barrio, as she sings a song dedicated to Pablo Escobar's evil ways. However, from the audience, Gilberto Rodriguez Orejuela (Damian Alcazar) sits and watches her. It was already established by the show's producers that the character would be one of the central subjects in "Narcos" Season 3, with the Cali Cartel. Take a look at what happens when Paquita la del Barrio realizes who is listening to her sing in the video below.
Viewers of "Narcos" have expressed that the upcoming season may not be as exciting to watch as the installments that featured Pablo Escobar. Some also expressed curiosity about the potential return of Javier Peña, who is played by Pedro Pascal in "Narcos."
As it was shown in "Narcos" Season 2, Peña was assigned to the Escobar case by the DEA, yet the agency pulled him back from Colombia even before the drug kingpin was arrested. Though Peña remained in the service until 2014, it's unclear if he's had any participation in the hunt down of the Cali Cartel that positioned itself in the drug trade after Escobar's death.
According to The Debrief, the real-life Javier Peña did confirm that he did not take part in case against the Cali Cartel. Yet "Narcos" Season 2 has a different take as it provided an open for the character to come back in the next season.
"Narcos" executive producer Eric Newman said that the show does take dramatic license in telling stories based factual events, so it's possible Javier Peña could return for "Narcos" Season 3. "I'd probably have to look at what Peña's role would be in the Cali, in taking down Cali," Newman told Entertainment Weekly. "I love working with Pedro Pascal, so nothing would make me happier than to be back in business with him in some way," he added.
The first and second season of "Narcos" are still streaming on Netflix. The show has been renewed for a third and fourth season, with Season 3 coming in 2017.
