The biggest name in mixed martial arts today, "The Notorious" Conor McGregor, will headline UFC 205 in New York, as he takes on lightweight champion, Eddie Alvarez, for the belt at 155 pounds.
It's official, The Notorious One will be once again on the main event on one of the biggest cards in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. This time, Conor McGregor will be fighting only 10 pounds heavier than his usual weight class, as he moves up to the lightweight division, and will challenge lightweight king, Eddie Alvarez.
This will be the third straight bout that McGregor will fight outside of his usual 145 pound division, after two big fights at welterweight. The Irish fighting superstar will seek to become the first multi-division champion of the UFC, a feat he had accomplished before in Cage Warriors.
At the UFC 205 presser, which featured the fighters on the Madison Square Garden card, McGregor once again showed why he is the king of trash talk by getting into the head of Eddie Alvarez. There plenty of heated exchanges at the event, where McGregor and Alvarez went back and forth at each other, but McGregor dismissed the lightweight champ, saying "He's broke and he's desperate and he's trying to make it, 'McGregor's this, McGregor's that.' We've heard it all before," according to MMA Junkie.
After weeks of not having a real big fight for UFC 205, the card is now looking stacked, and filled with potential classics. Three titles will be on the line, with McGregor versus Alvarez in the main event, Tyrone Woodley and Stephen Thompson for the welterweight belt in co-main, and straw weight queen Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Karolina Kowalkiewicz will go at it for the women's 115 pound belt, according to a report from MMA Mania.
Other bouts in the main card include top middleweight contender Yoel Romero versus former champion, Chris Weidman, Jeremy Stephens versus former lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar, and Rashad Evans going against Tim Kennedy.
UFC 205 will be on November 12, 2016.
