‘Luke Cage’ Season 1 News: Misty Knight Appearing On Marvel’s ‘The Defenders;’ The Punisher Also Confirmed?

One of the important characters on "Luke Cage" will be appearing on Marvel's "The Defenders." That's no other than Misty Knight, who is portrayed by Simone Missick.

The news was revealed by Missick herself in a recent interview with The Wrap. When asked if the audience will see her character in other Marvel projects after "Luke Cage," the actress replied, "I believe I'm safe to say that I will be on 'The Defenders.'"

Missick then quipped, "Spoiler alert! If I lose my job because of this interview, sorry! I was supposed to be on 'The Defenders,' until I got fired." "The Defenders" will bring together vigilante superheroes namely Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones).

In the Marvel comic books that "Luke Cage" was based on, Misty is at first an NYPD officer who loses her right arm due to an incident in the line of duty. Pitying her, Tony Stark (portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. in the big screen) builds and gives her a bionic arm but with a twist -- it has super strength, according to Screen Rant.

With this newfound ability, Misty takes on the superhero persona and begins a detective agency that rivals that of Jessica Jones. In the comics, Misty was involved in a romantic relationship with both Iron Fist and Luke Cage.

It's too early to say how Misty's involvement with "The Defenders" will play out. We know that the character will not have her bionic arm when the first season of "Luke Cage" premieres.

Misty could get her superhero origin tale before the series' debut season ends. It's also likely that she will begin her romance with Luke during the events of "Luke Cage" Season 1 and serve as his driving force in joining The Defenders. This mirrors Pepper Potts' (Gwyneth Paltrow) role in Tony Stark/Iron Man's life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Other supporting characters from the Netflix Marvel Universe will also appear on "The Defenders" such as Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) of "Daredevil" and Malcolm Ducasse (Eka Darville) of "Jessica Jones." We Got This Covered reported that there are strong speculations that Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle/The Punisher will grace "The Defenders" with his presence as well. This wouldn't be surprising, given how strong his chemistry was with Cox's Matt Murdock on "Daredevil" Season 2.

Netflix is currently developing a spin-off series focused on The Punisher, to premiere presumably in late 2017. Both "The Defenders" and "Iron Fist" will air next year, with the former to begin filming this year, The Wrap noted.
