"Supergirl" will return in its second season in a little under a week, and now on its new home on the CW; the premiere is set to include some major revamps to the show's formula with the formal introduction of the Man of Steel himself in proper form after very small appearances in the previous season.
Titled "The Adventures of Supergirl," the episode's label harkens back to the multitude of media that adapted the Superman stories. The "Supergirl" season 2 will feature Tyler Hoechlin who will guest star as the cousin of Melissa Benoist's Supergirl himself, Superman.
Notably, Hoechlin's portrayal of the character will mark a milestone after a long absence of a fully-realized Superman on the small screen. Superman's appearance on "Supergirl" will reportedly be of a much more classic version, according to Den of Geek.
According to the episode synopsis shared by Spoiler TV, "The Adventures of Supergirl" will feature Superman arriving to National City to assist his cousin with a major threat. While Supergirl is happy to have actual blood-relations flying around in town, her adopted sister Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh) will apparently end up "feeling left out."
The episode will also follow up on the massive cliffhanger ending of the first season of "Supergirl," which ended with another alien pod crashing down to Earth. While the screen faded to black then before anyone could really find out what was inside, the season 2 premiere will show that it actually contained the Daxamite alien Mon-El.
Chris Wood will be playing Mon-El, another being with similar powers to Kryptonians, and joins the "Supergirl" cast in regular capacity. The season 2 premiere will have Supergirl and Hank Hensaw (David Harewood) trying to deal with this new alien.
Presumably, the "Supergirl" season 2 premiere will also have Supergirl's civilian identity of Kara Danvers leave her old job at CatCo according to Spoiler TV's synopsis of the second episode. Catch the return of "Supergirl" when the season 2 premiere airs on Monday, Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
