A crazy three-team trade is said to be brewing between the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers, and Los Angeles Clippers. This trade will reportedly put Clippers center, DeAndre Jordan, to the Celtics.
The rumor was reported by NBA-Trade-Rumors.com, claiming that the Celtics will trade Amir Johnson, Jae Crowder, Marcus Smart, and a first-round choice to the Clippers in exchange for Jordan. The Clippers, meanwhile, will give Smart to the Sixers in exchange for their power forward and center, Nerlens Noel.
Of course, these are all speculations and unconfirmed as of late, but this three-team trade is not entirely impossible. According to a report from the ESPN Trade Machine, this rumored trade would be fruitful even though it is a bit off.
First, it's important to take note of the Celtics giving up plenty of players to acquire Jordan, who excels as center in the NBA but doesn't come without faults. The 28-year-old player isn't that impressive when it comes to shooting free throws.
If Jordan's Celtics transfer pulls through, his game will complement power forward and center Al Horford. However, it's best for the team to not use Jordan during the end of a close game because of his free throw issues.
For the Sixers, they can use Smart as point guard. But Sportsrageous noted that Celtics is probably not willing to let go a valuable player like Smart for Jordan.
The Celtics can also enter a huge trade at the deadline or next summer that involves superstar players, Jimmy Butler of the Chicago Bulls and DeMarcus Cousins of the Sacramento Kings, Sportsrageous added. For this, the Celtics can let go of Jaylen Brown and a future first-round pick, among other players possible as trading pieces.
The Clippers, on the other hand, would likely use Noel in the middle to fill Jordan's position. Crowder can be the small forward and Johnson will serve as Blake Griffin's back-up.
There are also speculations that the Clippers would rebuild and in the process, lose Griffin and Chris Paul in free agency after the 2016-17 NBA season, according to a separate report from Sportsrageous. The team can also trade the two for the Celtics' Brown, Johnson, Avery Bradley, Isaiah Thomas, Jonas Jerebko, and Kelly Olynyk.
