It's been quite a long time since viewers saw Irene/Jamie Moriarty, Kitty, and Ms. Hudson on "Elementary." The procedural drama series' executive producer, however, recently teased that one of the three will reappear in the current season.
The news was teased by executive producer Rob Doherty and co-producer Jeffrey Paul King during a live-tweet of the "Elementary" Season 5 premiere this week. A fan asked on Twitter whether Irene/Jamie (Natalie Dormer), Kitty (Ophelia Lovibond), and Ms. Hudson (Candis Cayne) will return.
"EXCELLENT question. I like our chances of seeing ONE of them after the holidays. Otherwise... our lips are sealed," the "Elementary" execs tweeted back. Dormer's Irene/Jamie portrayal was last seen in the 14th episode of season three titled "The Female of the Species," according to Wikia's "Elementary" page.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Doherty said that "there is always a chance" of Dormer reprising her character on "Elementary." However, the former "Game of Thrones" actress is "extraordinarily busy" and she has "multiple projects going on at the time." There has to be an appropriately timed window for her to guest star on the CBS series again.
Kitty, on the other hand, last appeared in the 12th episode of season three titled "The One That Got Away." The transgender Ms. Hudson was last seen in season three, episode seven titled "The Adventure of the Nutmeg Concoction."
As for Joan's (Lucy Liu) stepsister, Lin (Samantha Quan), Doherty and King revealed in a tweet that there's a huge chance that she will reappear in "the first quarter of the season." The same cannot be said for Mycroft (Rhys Ifans), Sherlock's (Jonny Lee Miller) brother and Joan's former lover. The "Elementary" execs confirmed on Twitter that Ifans will not reprise his role in Season 5 due to another commitment.
Episode three of "Elementary" titled "Render, and Then Seize Her" will feature Sherlock learning a secret about Captain Gregson's (Aidan Quinn) girlfriend, Paige (Virginia Madsen), Spoiler TV reported. Paige will hire the genius detective on a case that she wants to hide from Gregson. Sherlock and Joan will also help the NYPD look for an abducted woman.
Doherty's interview with EW hinted that wedding bells may be ringing for Gregson and Paige soon. Sherlock's relationship with Fiona (Betty Gilpin) will be explored further in Season 5 as well.
A love interest for Joan, meanwhile, is on hold for now, though Doherty revealed that they "always have an eye out for someone who would fit the bill." "Elementary" airs on Sunday, 10 PM ET on CBS.
