UFC middleweight fighter and author of "The housekeeper", Josh Samman, died on Wednesday after almost a week-long comma. Josh Samman, 28, was found unresponsive by a friend last Thursday evening in his apartment alongside his roommate, Troy Kirkingburg, who was dead on the scene.
According to Hollywood (Fla.) Police Department's statement released Monday, police officers did not see signs of foul play at the scene and officers are still determining the exact cause of death. In the statement, police said they responded to the "call of a possible drug overdose."
Josh Samman was known to have problems with drug abuse before. Samman's mother, however, denied rumor of drug overdose in a statement to Fox sports on Monday.
"And in spite of speculation, there was no heroin found in Josh's system whatsoever," The Guardian cites. "No matter what people are posting on social media."
In 2013, Josh Samman wrote about his struggle with substance abuse and the death of his girlfriend in his book titled "The Housekeeper: Love, Death and Prize Fighting." Josh Samman first debuted in UFC during The Ultimate Fighter 17 back in 2013, where he won against Kevin Casey.
But he disappeared from the ring after his girlfriend's car accident.He returned to the ring after a year, knocking out Eddie Gordon in December with a left switch head kick in UFC 181 -- it was considered one of the best knockouts of 2014.
But after consecutive losses to Tamdan McCrory and Tim Boetsch, Summan dipped to no. 31 in UFC's middleweight rankings. Since his Debut in UFC, Josh Samman holds a 3 win-2 loss record card.
Other than fighting in the octagon ring, Josh Samman was also writing for UFC.com as well as several MMA websites. Josh Samman was scheduled to fight Oluwale Bamgbose at UFC fight Night 102 on December 9 in Albany, N.Y
