The "X-men" spinoff "Legion" on FX might feature a prominent character played by an equally popular actor. Patrick Stewart's Professor Xavier, who has been featured in most of the "X-men" movies, could be doing a cameo in the TV show. "Legion" has also added "Flight of the Conchords" star Jermaine Clement in a multi-episode appearance.
Patrick Stewart's appearance as Professor Xavier on "Legion" has been brought up in the recent New York Comic Con panel for the show. As "Legion" is about Professor Xavier's son, David Haller (played by Dan Stevens), it makes sense for the X-men founder to be present in the series, even as a cameo.
David Haller is characterized as a person with multiple personality disorder. He has a legion of characters in his head. He's also slowly realizing he could have mutant powers. Professor Xavier didn't know about his existence while David was growing up. His mother, Gabrielle Haller, hid this fact in the "Legion" comic book series the show is based from, Screen Rant reports.
It is expected that the father and son will have an encounter in "Legion" especially since David will need to learn to control and understand his powers, where his father is the expert. When "Legion" executive producers were asked about this possibility, their answers were vague yet they hinted that it can be option, according to Mashable.
The producers also insisted that they will stay true to what is in the comics in crafting "Legion's" plots. "I like the idea of trying to make things that are unexpected and yet in the end feel inevitable," showrunner Noah Hawley said.
Meanwhile, "Legion" recently cast Jermaine Clement in a still undetermined role. Deadline reports that the "Flight of the Conchords" actor is going to appear in more than one episode.
"Legion" also stars Aubrey Plaza, Rachel Keller, Jeremie Harris, Katie Aselton and Amber Midthunder. Cable network FX has not yet confirmed its actual air date but it is set for an early 2017 release.
