British series "Black Mirror" will debut its third season on Netflix on Friday, Oct. 21. The streaming platform has released a new teaser that depicts another potentially shocking run. Created by Charlie Brooker, the anthology's first two seasons were aired in Channel 4 in the U.K. from 2011 to 2014 and subsequently ran on Netflix in 2015.
The streaming platform won the bid to produce "Black Mirror" Season 3, thus Channel 4 lost rights to the show. Charlie Brooker believes that Netflix would be "the most fitting platform imaginable" for "Black Mirror," per The Guardian.
On Netflix, "Black Mirror" will carry 12 separate episodes, which is the most number of episodes in a season in the show's entire run. But according to Radio Times, only six of 12 will be released in its Netflix offering on Friday. The remaining episodes' release is still undetermined.
The titles of "Black Mirror's" first six episodes on Netflix are "San Junipero," "Shut Up and Dance," "Nosedive," "Men Against Fire," "Hated in the Nation" and "Playtest." Following "Black Mirror's" format, the stories will be told as an anthology, which means the plots are independent and separate of each other with different episode directors.
"They don't have shuffle mode on Netflix, but you can watch them in any order," Charlie Brooker said, per Digital Spy. "So it'll be interesting to see what people do."
"Black Mirror" is incomparable to any other show that's currently on the air. Its premise takes place in the future and shows how technological attachments have affected society. It is a social commentary that reflects real events even as "Black Mirror" can be largely classified as a sci-fi drama and thriller.
"Black Mirror" Season 3's first six episodes will feature actors like Bryce Dallas Howard, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Kelly, Mackenzie Davis, Jerome Flynn, James Norton, Alice Eve, Malachi Kirby, Madeline Brewer, Kelly MacDonald, Wyatt Russell and Hannah John-Kamen.
