A lot of gamers are still waiting for Half-Life 3. For so long a time, the game's fate has been hanging on the balance, while game developer Valve is keeping a tight lid on what's really going to happen. But despite everything, hope is not lost for a comeback.
GameNGuide's latest post revealed that Valve is set "to finally unveil" the much anticipated Half-Life 3 in 2017 as part of their Steam Dev Days. This year's iteration saw a slew of hardware related inclusions like Virtual Reality, the Steam Controller and Vulkan Graphics. Next year is geared towards software, and fans are quite leaning on the fact that the company might just raise the red curtain on the Half-Life 3.
On the other hand, Valve News Network has it that a new Half-Life 3 game is indeed in the works, but it won't turn out to be like the original. Rather, the new Half-Life 3 title would be "Half-Life VR". There's also a video that somewhat claims that the game might just "come out to be legit and not just part of the rumor mill." It also mentioned that "assets from the original game" were utilized be the developer in an experiment to run Half-Life in Virtual Reality.
Destinations, a Steam VR app, also paved the way for data miners to course through their files and discovered a certain project dubbed as "HL:VR". A latest Destinations update likewise leaked several codes that pointed to "weapons and other assets" that will be included in the potential Half-Life Virtual Reality game.
With all of the hype surrounding Half-Life 3, a VR version won't be that bad if the company decides to push through with its development. Of course, fans would need to have additional hardware as opposed to a traditional Half-Life where it could run on a PC. But then again, trying something new is a familiar approach, especially now that technological advances are stepping up the game.
