'Game Of Thrones,' 'Westworld' Crossover At HBO? It's George RR Martin's Idea! What Viewers Should Know

Could a potential crossover between "Game of Thrones" and "Westworld" be happening at HBO? The idea to bring the network's two hit series together apparently came from GOT best-selling author George RR Martin.

Reports say that George RR Martin thought of the "Game of Thrones" and "Westworld" crossover even before the latter series debuted on HBO in early October. It sprung from the original movie that was shown in theaters in 1973.

In the early version of "Westworld," which came from Michael Crichton, the somewhat augmented reality theme park was operating next to a medieval-themed Roman World theme park. Thus, George RR Martin proposed to have a "Game of Thrones" theme park in the "Westworld" TV show. Entertainment Weekly (EW) reports that he has talked about this possibility with "Westworld" executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy over dinner once.

"He's a lovely guy and a stunning writer and it's flattering he would encourage a crossover," Nolan told EW. "We should be so lucky," he added.

Lisa Joy expressed a problem with the suggestions, though, as she stated she needs to believe that dragons do exist in real life. Even as "Westworld" is set in an alternate reality, it can still get as real as the actual world, which means there can never be dragons in the theme park.

There are also plenty of legal and logistical kinks to iron out before a "Game of Thrones" and "Westworld" crossover could get underway. Thus, while the potential is there, it still won't likely happen.

Meanwhile, filming for "Game of Thrones" Season 7 in Ireland and Spain is still rolling. Speculations are that Daenerys and Jon Snow will finally get to meet and discuss a potential alliance, Screen Rant reports.

As for "Westworld," ratings have been picking up considerably and the numbers continue to rise every week, much to HBO's advantage. Gamespot reports that the increase in viewership is at least 40 percent in the third episode. The fourth episode (out of 10 episodes) will air on Sunday, Oct. 23.
