‘Deadpool 2’ Cast & News: Domino Actress Found? Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Lizzy Caplan, Ruby Rose & More In Shortlist

"Deadpool 2" is a long way away but casting rumors and news are already popping on the internet in recent weeks. Just recently, a shortlist of actresses vying for the role of Domino has been revealed.

The new "Deadpool 2" casting news was reported by Collider. The actresses being considered for Domino are Lizzy Caplan ("Masters of Sex"), Mary Elizabeth Winstead ("10 Cloverfield Lane"), Sofia Boutella ("Kingsman: The Secret Service"), Sienna Miller ("American Sniper), Stephanie Sigman ("Spectre"), Sylvia Hoeks ("The Girl and Death"), Ruby Rose ("Orange is the New Black"), Mackenzie Davis ("Halt and Catch Fire"), Eve Hewson ("Bridge of Spies"), and Kelly Rohrbach ("Baywatch").

According to Collider, all these actresses have tested or are going to test for the Domino role in "Deadpool 2" starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular character. For those unacquainted with the character, Neena Thurman a.k.a. Domino is a mercenary and mutant like Wade Wilson. Domino was created by writer Rob Liefeld, with her first full appearance featured in 1992's comic book "X-Force," The Wrap reported.

In the comics, Domino was one of the two survivors of a government experiment called Project: Armageddon, which gave her telekinetic abilities that allow her to manipulate luck and probability. Domino eventually became a member of the X-Men like Deadpool and became the Merc with the Mouth's occasional ally, ScreenCrush noted.

The comic book's version of Domino has a close bond with Deadpool's frenemy and fellow mutant Cable, who has a significant part in "Deadpool 2" as well. In the comics, Domino was Cable's confidante, partner, and lover.

There were rumors that Kyle Chandler ("Bloodline") is portraying Cable in "Deadpool 2." Stephen Lang expressed his desire to play the part in "Deadpool 2" but his commitment to James Cameron's "Avatar" sequels may complicate that. Ron Perlman and Dolph Lundgren also said that they want to assume the role of Cable, according to a separate report from ScreenCrush.

"X-Men" producer Simon Kinberg said in August that "Deadpool 2" will feature commentary on "anything that's happening in movies today especially in superhero movies," IGN reported. Kinberg added that the huge number of comic book films and their sequels will be addressed in "Deadpool 2" as well.

"Deadpool" director Tim Miller and screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are returning to their roles in the follow-up, which will start filming in 2017. An official release date for "Deadpool 2" hasn't been announced yet.
