According to ESPN, MVP guard Derrick Rose's output in recent seasons has fallen short of elite levels. During the 2015-2016 NBA season, Rose only averaged 16.4 points on 42 percent shooting and handed out 4.7 assists per game for a Bulls team that missed the playoffs
In fact, earlier this year, the New York Knicks acquired MVP guard Derrick Rose from the Chicago Bulls in a multiplayer trade. NY Knicks President Phil Jackson wanted to see the MVP guard return to the elite form he showed earlier in his career when he was named the youngest MVP in league history in 2011.
MVP guard Derrick Rose even admitted to "nerves" before his first game as a New York Knicks point guard. However, Rose assured that his knee problems are so far in the past that it no longer bothers him on the court. The NY Knicks new point guard and 2011 MVP underwent over three knee surgeries in a span of 2 years and 6 months, from May 2012 to February 2015.
Derrick Rose said in an interview that he doesn't even think nor speak about that same old story anymore. He further emphasized that this season will be all about decelerating, slowing down and counting his explosive steps which he has been playing all along. "I've been preparing for this moment a long time," Rose said. "I can't wait to see how things go out and shake off the rust.''
In the past 5 years, this would be the fourth time that MVP guard Rose faces a LeBron James team in either the season opener or home opener.
