Google Pixel XL has an estimated Bill of Materials (BoM) of $285.75, which includes components and assembly costs. Reportedly, experts at HIS have released their reports on BoM of the Google Pixel XL 32GB.
Although BoM declared the cost of Pixel XL at $285.75, it has not included software, R&D and marketing costs. As per BoM, the cost of Samsung's Galaxy S7 is $255 and iPhone 7 is $224.8, the lesser price is because these two smartphones are smaller than Pixel XL.
According to GSMArena, Google's Pixel XL comes with Samsung-made AMOLED panel and Gorilla Glass 4 costing $58, Qualcomm processor is $50 for the SoC, RF parts cost $19.50, power management components costs $11 for and a fraction of $15.50 for the audio codec.
Memory components cost $26.50. LG Chem-made battery costs $4. The cameras are priced at $17.50 and the Pixel XL's enclosure is estimated to cost $35. Other stuff like chargers, cables and documentations cost $10.
Is it worth buying Google Pixel XL for $769? This is the commonly raised question that needs an answer. Google's launch of its self-made Pixel smartphones rushed a race with other flagships in the tech market. In the race of specifications, Google Pixel XL did not beat Galaxy S7 and iPhone 7 waterproof feature.
The Pixel XL features Qualcomm's Snapdragon 821 combined with 4GB of RAM. Rear cameras stand at 12MP with dual LED flash. Storage starts at 32GB and resolution at 1080p for the smaller and 1440×2560 for the larger device. But its non-water proof feature puts it behind all flagships.
Google was under a very tight schedule for Pixel smartphones, and it said, "We ran out of time." According to Pierce, that it was a mere nine months and one week. Google had canceled plans for the smartphone late 2015, and the idea was resurrected earlier this year.
