The Boston Celtics have been trying to acquire the service of a star player for months. This is not the Celtics' first attempt to entice the nine-time NBA All-Star, Carmelo Anthony to play for them.
According to Sportsgrid, the Celtics tried to lure Anthony away from the Knicks in February, but Anthony declined the offer stating he wanted to win in New York, and that he had no desire to play for the Celtics. However, speculations suggest that the Celtics have not given up on trying to obtain Anthony yet.
In a recent report by Inquisitr, the alleged trade scenario has the Knicks giving up Anthony in exchange for Celtics' small forward Jae Crowder, and power forwards Jonas Jerebko and Amir Johnson. In addition to the three players, the Celtics will let go of their 2019 first-round draft pick which they obtained from a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies.
The speculative deal would be valid as confirmed by the ESPN NBA Trade Machine. The Knicks and the Celtics supposedly came to an agreement for the transfer of Anthony 8 months ago, but Anthony used his no-trade clause to dismiss the offer.
During the off-season, the Celtics have been involved in numerous trade rumors after having acquired then free-agent power forward Al Horford in summer. The Celtics are allegedly looking for a household name to pair up with the four-time NBA All-Star.
If the Celtics will let go of Crowder, Johnson, and Jerebko for Anthony, they will have to deal with a compact depth in the power forward position. If the trade comes about, the only power forward left would be sophomore Jordan Mickey, who according to Inquisitr, is not capable of starting for a strong NBA team. With these circumstances, will the Celtics push through with their efforts to acquire Anthony?
