"Narcos" star Wagner Moura is moving on to another high-profile role after playing the infamous Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar in the Netflix series. The Brazilian actor's next project will be a movie based on a political personality from his country.
Wagner Moura, who achieved international fame via the action drama series "Narcos," will star as Carlos Marighella in his next project, in the movie "Marighella." Deemed as a hero by the left, he was the leader of Brazil's National Liberation Alliance who became a wanted guerilla by the United States in the '60s.
Filming for "Marighella" is set for early 2017. The "Narcos" star, however, said that they have been working on the movie's script since 2013. The delay was due to the fact that they had to ascertain details involving real people who were being depicted in the movie, according to Reporter Diario.
Even as Wagner Moura is no longer going to be in the third season of "Narcos," Netflix is still promoting the show's successful Pablo Escobar story. In fact, the streaming platform has recently released a behind-the-scenes feature on how "Narcos" filmed the death scene of Wagner Moura's character.
"We ended up shooting in the real house where Pablo was living - the roof right beside where he was killed," Wagner Moura said, according to Variety. The actor did most of his stunts for the scene in "Narcos," which has ended up quite "intense and disturbing."
Meanwhile, as Wagner Moura exits "Narcos," the brothers behind the Cali Cartel, who were introduced in the second season, will become the focus of the third season's story. Filming is already underway for "Narcos" Season 3 and new cast members have also been added, as per a previous Parent Herald report.
It has been confirmed that Pedro Pascal will be back to play Javier Pena in "Narcos" Season 3. However, it is unclear if he's going to be a regular in the new season or will be participating in a limited capacity. Check back to this site for more news and updates about the Netflix drama.
