Earlier this year, "Jurassic Park" fans around the world celebrated the news that Colin Trevorrow's modern "Jurassic World" will be coming back with the exciting sequel in 2018. It's pretty obvious that "Jurassic World 2" would soon be in the works, considering "Jurassic World" raked in a whopping $1.6 billion from its worldwide release last June, making it the third-highest-grossing film of all time.
So, what do we know about it so far? We're already expecting to see Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard reprise their roles as the new on-screen couple, Owen and Claire. It's also been revealed that they will be switching roles, with Bryce playing the lead character this time around.
Bryce seemingly confirmed this, telling E!:
"Claire is a different person now. The person she is at the end of the [first] movie is not the person she was in the beginning. Her armor of sorts was that white, pristine outfit with heels in a very corporate environment and stuff, and the chick at the end -- totally different."
Trevorrow, who is co-writing the "Jurassic World" sequel with Derek Connolly, reveals that he would still be "involved [in] some way, but not as director," and that "The Orphanage" director J.A. Bayona would be taking on the job. However, the former director is already giving "Jurassic World 2" a much fresher plot--one that's no longer based on the overused idea of people running for survival as they get chased by dinosaurs on an island. Trevorrow told Wired:
"That'll get old real fast. It will get to be a different kind of film. [We're going for a] much larger story about our relationship with these animals and about animals in general and the dynamic created by bringing them back to life,"
As for the budget, Bayona admitted back in September that their film cost has gone up to $260 million-a huge jump from the first film's original cost of $150 million. With that, we're definitely curious as to how much better they can make the special effects and dinosaur graphics more impressive when we were already clearly blown away by the first ones!
And for the most exciting news: Until when will we have to wait until we get a glimpse of "Jurassic World 2"? According to a press release by Universal Studios, "Jurassic World 2" will be released on June 22, 2018, while fans from the UK will get to see it first on June 7.
Are you excited? We definitely are!
