Main man in the middle of the grit and grind system of the Memphis Grizzlies, Zach Randolph is rumored to be on the trading block as the team is looking to change its offensive system under their new head coach, David Fizdale.
Power forward, Randolph played alongside his dynamic duo, Marc Gasol, forming a twin tower, rough and tough offensive style under the leadership of their former head coach Dave Joerger. Throughout the past few years, the team's brand of offensive force has always earned them a spot in the playoffs. But they have always failed to exceed expectations after falling short of clinching a Western Conference Finals spot. The last time the team made it was during the 2012-2013 season when the San Antonio Spurs swept them 4-0.
During the offseason, the Grizzlies decided to switch gear and change their direction as they fired Joerger and signed in David Fizdale. Fizdale's "run and gun" offensive system moved Randolph to the bench where trade speculations came up that the veteran player will be traded soon.
Headlines and Global News reports that the Grizzlies are considering sending away Randolph to get a younger player or lock-in future draft picks in exchange for him. Two teams that have been on the radar that are interested in Randolph's services are the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Los Angeles Clippers.
Although there are no concrete and serious conversations held in the league, if the trade scenario will push through, the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Los Angeles Clippers will need to open space for Randolph to fill in their roster. Big men of the respective teams, Steven Adams, Enes Kanter, Blake Griffin, Mo Speights, and DeAndre Jordan will be on the watch list.
In other news, according to Sportsrageous, the Toronto Raptors are also chasing after Randolph. Randolph will bring depth on their roster as he will fill in the space of their former defensive-mindset center, Bismack Biyombo. The 16-year veteran will bring an offensive gameplay in their frontcourt, as he will be a perfect complement of Raptors' center Jonas Valanciunas.
Zach Randolph will soon be a free agent next summer, and many analysts say that it would be wise for the Memphis Grizzlies to move him now than lose him for nothing.
Will we see Randolph play for a new NBA city? We all have to find out soon.
