"Call of Duty: Jackal Assault VR," Activision's PS4 VR experience can be downloaded and experienced for free by all PS4 owners. This is contrary to the previous announcement that the game will only be available to players who purchased COD's latest installment, which is the "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare."
Activision announced today that anyone can download the game through the VR section of the PlayStation Store, as reported by Gamespot. Jackal Assault was introduced to the public at this year's Tokyo Game Show. This free for all download, however, still requires the PS4 VR headset during gameplay. The gameplay is a jet fighter simulation aboard one of Infinite Warfare's fighter jet called the Jackal.
Gameplay videos and reviews of the initial release looked great, especially for the game that is offered free of charge. The VR experience very well crafted and runs smoothly that it may cause motion sickness to some players. The game also doesn't need the "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" for it to function, making it an entirely different standalone game.
The sudden change of Activision's previous announcement may involve today's release of "Infinite Warfare," which is not performing the way the developers expected. The new installment is expected to redeem the "Call of Duty" title from the bad publicity and disappointment caused by "Call of Duty: Ghosts." The first wave of reviews displayed fair ratings, Time Magazine gave it a 2.5/5 ("Battlefield 1" got 4.5/5) stating that: "'Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare' reaches for the stars but never gets off the ground." Gamespot gave the game 8/10 rating ("Battlefield 1" got 9/10) giving credits to the game's campaign mode. Another review from Polygon earned a decent 8.5/10 score ("Battlefield 1" got 9/10) also giving credits to the game's campaign mode.
Activision made the right decision in abandoning the "Call of Duty: Ghosts" installment and promising an overhauled new installment to the series. The initial wave of reviews could be the beginning of the end of the epic series or there is a possibility that the critics failed to see beyond the title and have only covered the tip of the iceberg.
