The Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook Jr. seems not really pleased when Kevin Durant left him after five years of fighting back to back together wearing the OKC Thunder jersey. Their soap opera drama was brought to that match between OKC Thunder and Golden State Warriors.
Last July 7, NBA's official website reported that the Golden State Warriors have signed free agent forward Kevin Durant, Despite the history between Durant and his former 5-year teammates, he left no mercy for OKC by scoring 39 points before the Golden State Warriors ended the game with 122-96.
CBS Sports reported that in the last few days, Kevin Durant has done a couple of one-on-one interviews, where he talked about his love of Oklahoma City Thunder and his best buddy Westbrook. Durant also explained that his decision to join the Golden State Warriors last July is to find out the real Durant in him as he matures. Kevin Durant doesn't want any problem with the Oklahoma City or his former teammate. What Durant did is not a bad thing, but rather an admirable thing for an NBA player discussing his vulnerability and willingness about the decision made.
Russell Westbrook, on the other hand, got tired of the line of questions about Kevin Durant's decision a few weeks prior to the game, and he shut everything down. Westbrook did not answer any questions pertaining to his former teammate Kevin Durant.
Russell Westbrook also refused to be defined by any media narratives, any fan expectations, and anything else. Westbrook doesn't want to be put into a box by Durant's decision. He just dyed himself as the wounded soul lashing out at Kevin Durant for dumping him.
According to Yahoo Sports, Russell Westbrook angrily said, "I told you guys I'm not answering any more Kevin questions, so if you want to talk about basketball I'm more than welcome to be able to talk about that."
But when the two best buddies faced each other, the former MVP Kevin Durant was a scoring machine who fired at his former teammates for 39 points on 15-of-24 shooting and another 7-of-11 from 3-point range.
The Golden State Warriors were really merciless. They geared Durant up and constantly finding him on the cuts to the rim for dunks, 3-pointers on the perimeter, and celebrating with joy whenever Durant did anything.
